Calling all parents (Emptier Nesters) who just sent or are about to send their kid to college
I support parents who just sent their kid to college process those emotional ups and downs of this transitional time so you can feel calm, reassured, and joyful.
Navigating this phase can be harder than finding Twin XL bed sheets!
These big feelings are here to stay – together we’ll get clear on how to handle them when they show up
You might be feeling….
- Overwhelmed, excited, lonely, proud, and lost all tangled up inside
- Helpless because your child doesn’t need you anymore
- Insecure with your parental role and purpose
- Vulnerable talking about how you feel with friends and family
Hi, I’m Diana,
a two-time girl mom – with one in college at UC Berkeley, Go Bears! (cheering even though I went to UCLA) and another one in middle school.
I’ve spent over 25 years working with parents and children from infants all the way through college.
Through my own parenting and lots of mom wins and fails, I’ve learned that parenting doesn’t have to be a struggle. My approach brings an element of calm to family life, eliminating the word “should” from the parenting playbook.
How I Support You
Step 1
You First!
Your role as a parent is evolving, but you’re still your child’s anchor. This transition is an opportunity for personal growth. We’ll explore what’s triggering your emotions, identify patterns you may be repeating, and address your own unmet needs. By focusing on your well-being, you’ll be better equipped to support your college student and model healthy adult behavior.
Step 2
Nest-to-Campus Blueprint
Together, we’ll create a customized strategy for this new chapter in your life. We’ll align your approach with your family values, your new daily rhythms, and your college student’s evolving needs. This plan will help you maintain a strong connection with your child while fostering their independence and your personal growth.
Step 3
Step-by-Step Guidance
We’ll develop practical, actionable steps to apply your Nest-to-Campus Blueprint to your daily life. We’ll address common challenges like managing communication, handling holidays and visits, supporting your student from afar, and rediscovering your personal interests. Thrive in this new stage of your parenting journey.
As a Parent Coach…
my approach is rooted in empathy, understanding, and holding a safe space for you without judgment.
Before working with Diana I felt so lost and found myself feeling tired and angry all the time. Diana made me feel safe, and heard, and that I was not alone. I don’t always get it right but I am in a much better place because I have strategies to calm myself down and I can calmy and confidently some challenging moments without turning into a puddle. I feel more connected to myself and to my college girl. I wish I would have reached out sooner.
You really helped me navigate the emotions of the admittance process. I was fine until I wasn’t. Thank you for the boost of confidence and support.
Thank you for helping me and my wife through this tricky time. We are on such different pages with this whole college thing – we don’t agree on everything but we can talk about things more openly and we can be supportive of each other.
After working together for 12 weeks. I respect my own choices in parenting. I can see the big picture more clearly for me and my son. I want to keep informing myself, learn from and understand the science behind my son’s development, and I love to see my son growing more independent.
FAQs
What is a parent coach?
A parent coach is a trained, experienced guide for you and your family. They provide you with information and individualized tools to help make parenting less overwhelming and transitional time more joyful and less stressful.
Is parent coaching the same as therapy?
Parent coaching focuses on providing practical strategies and guidance for improving family dynamics, communication, and parenting skills, often addressing specific challenges. Therapy delves deeper into past traumas or mental health concerns with a more therapeutic lens. Coaching is typically forward-focused, while therapy addresses both past and present. Coaching is not therapy.
What is the difference between what you do and a college coach/counselor/mentor?
As a parent coach, my focus is on supporting the parents in their emotional journey as their child transitions to college. I help parents navigate their feelings, understand and manage emotions, and provide strategies for self-regulation during this significant life change. In contrast, a college coach assists the student in practical aspects like college all aspects of the application and admissions process, coursework, scholarship opportunities and academic prep work for college.
If you are looking for a referral for a college coach/counselor/mentor, send me a message, I have a wonderful colleague who can support you and your child with that!
Why work with a parent coach?
Parenting is wonderful and hard! Even if you’ve read all the books, downloaded all the podcasts, and followed all the influencers and gurus, there is no magic fix and fit for every parent. Each parenting story and journey is unique. A parent coach can meet you where you are and provide individualized support so you can feel more confident and calm an who you are as a parent.
How does the coaching session work?
We’ll meet 1:1 on Zoom so you can get the support you need anytime anywhere. Regular sessions are 60 minutes. I am here to listen without judgment so you can feel safe sharing your questions, concerns, and anything else that is on your mind. Together we will come up with strategies to help you feel more joyful in this parenting phase and less overwhelmed. Parents have shared that they have felt reassured and calmer even after one session. Coaching sessions are neither on the quarter or semester system – you deserve to take the time you need to meet your needs!
How much does coaching cost?
After your complimentary call, if we are a good fit and you would like to continue getting the support you deserve, sessions are $129/session or $599 /5 session package.
